...we've been waiting a while for this. let's hope all the running has paid off and we'll be on our toes. If anyone wants a free ride down to brooklyn for the marine electric show, let me know. The show is only 5 doughlars and it comes with a cup for the keg. we'll be there early so i'm sure we will get our fill of keg beers. It might make a good weekend great. Other than that, we still have to figure out our ride situation for the pbc show. it's at shelter, so we can't walk there. we can take a cab if we absolutely had to, but we should try to avoid that. start brainstorming. also, let's hold down the door at our place on saturday. if noone comes in that we don't want in then hopefully we will not have to kick anyone out. I'm going to go out there and say that we should not get SUPER wasted until the party gets going a bit and we feel comfortable with the crowd...just in case we have to deal with a situation. There is going to be a shitload of kids at the show, so it's quite possible a lot of people we don't know get word of the party and try to come through. 2 kegs? definitely.

This is a hidden video of a world-renown violinist, Joshua Bell, playing a crazy difficult set for a subway station audience in Washington, D.C.. In a social experiment organized by the Washington Post Joshua, among others, wondered just how much of an appreciation do ordinary people have for the arts on an everyday basis. The results may or may not surprise you:

Bell played a total of of six classical pieces over the course of 43 minutes, during which time 1,097 people passed by:

-only seven bothered to stand and watch for more than a full minute

Now I know none of us at 505 are classical music aficionados but I hope we'd at least be able to notice a world class musician shredding his dick off in a subway station. Maybe we'd even watch for a bit. Either way, seeing this reminded me to stay frosty when it comes to appreciating art and creativity no matter where I find it. This house is famous.

Let me start with saying that I love bikes, and I also like computers and subsequently blogs. Those three things together make it very easy for me to like the hysterical blog, relating to bikes and how ridiculous things can get. It's called BikeSnobNYC and it's hysterical.

However, recently there has been a contest going on in blog-land. The prizes, as said by Sir Snob himself are:

that's funny mark, i just signed onto the blog with the intention of making a dream post.

my dreams are getting smarter, i'm telling you. i think my mind has gotten to a point where it requires or expects some kind of abstract thought. since i don't have you buffoons around to ponder the big questions in life with my mind is having conversations with itself in my dreams. or maybe i'm just going crazy. this one occurred sometime between 7 and 8:30 this morning:

me and tom were in some weird park right after it rained. it was very late, to the point where it was still dark but almost morning. during the whole dream there was some woman in the shadows watching and listening to us. we knew she was there but never mentioned her or felt uncomfortable about it. we had an intense conversation not unlike we would after smoking. the conversation flowed in a logical manner, which is rare for my dreams. usually they are just bat shit insane. the conversation stemmed from me stating that although i was bored with being home at first, i was starting to get used to the simple way of life. we talked about the concept of boredom, how it is developed in one's mind and how our minds respond and acclimate themselves to their environment. we decided that it is very similar to physical acclimation in the sense that it occurs as a coping mechanism to negative stimulus. the majority of the conversation, though, was on whether this 'adjustment' was a positive or negative thing. we questioned whether getting used to your environment and 'settling' with what you have diminished the drive for something more out of life. we then argued whether being happy with less was a negative thing at all, since you are in fact happy. i can go on, but i want to save it for a blunt when i get back. when i woke up i thought it was funny that my mind was basically having a conversation with itself through an image of tom. the conversation developed just as it would have if i was having a conversation with someone else in my waking life. tom brought up points out of no where that i found intriguing and built on, but the whole time it was actually my own mind that was posing these points and intriguing itself. it's crazy what your mind is capable of.

anyway,

i just started reading Science at the Edge today. I'm only about 70 pages in but i can already tell that it is just what i was looking for. i can't wait to talk about it when i get back.

I don't think I am going to be able to make the Boston show. I forgot about a Christmas party that Jay planned at his apartment. I'm going to be seeing Caleb tonight and tomorrow, and Transit is playing brooklyn next saturday (dec. 27th) anyway. you guys should try to make it down for that weekend, if at all possible.

i tried wings at this bar with tom last night. matt barnes said they were better than wt's so i was interested. he was sadly mistaken; wt's wings are infinitely better.

"Stovetop" REVISED

The game is played with a ping pong ball and a glass cup filled with beer on the top of the stove.

This is a team game. All players are playing against the stovetop cup.

The rotation is set by the players before the game begins. The heroes from previous stovetop matches go first in order of recency.

Each player gets two shots per turn.

Games are one hour long. If the team has failed to make the shot after the hour there is one final "overtime" rotation in which each player gets one last turn. There is no time limit in overtime. If the cup is still not made, the team loses.

If a player gets the first shot of his turn off before the end of the hour he may finish his turn before overtime.

The ball must bounce from the floor to the door to be a valid shot. A shot hitting the door first or bouncing off of the wall or molding is a foul ball and does not count, even if the cup is made.

To take a valid shot all players must be present in the room or unofficially absent. Shooting while a player is on official leave from the room results in a drinking penalty of half a beer.

Players must announce when they are leaving the room by flicking the lights off and on. This is an official leave. If the player leaves the room without announcing it and a shot is taken the shot is valid and the player who failed to announce his leave drinks half a beer on top of the drink total from any shot(s) taken.

Sinking the cup when someone is out of the room on official leave results in all players pouring their beers on the shooter and a loss.

If the shot is a foul or fails to hit the stove the shooter drinks 2.

If a shot hits the front of the stove (a "stoveshot") all players other than the shooter drink 1.

If a shot hits the top of the stove (a "stovetop") all players other than the shooter drink 2

If a stovetop hits the stovetop cup after bouncing all players other than the shooter drink 3.

If a shot hits the cup on a fly all players other than the shooter drink 4.

Drinks may be taken after each shot or cumulatively after the shooters turn.

A player that shoots out of turn gets his turn skipped in the following rotation.

If a player goes out of turn and sinks the cup the team loses and beer is poured on the shooter.

If a shot hits a player and would have been a stoveshot then the player that interfered drinks half a beer, unless the interfering player is the shooter. The other players then take either 1 or 2 drinks depending on whether the shot would have been a stoveshot or a stovetop.

If a shot that would have missed the stove hits off of another player and goes into play the shot is still a miss and no drinks are taken. (this includes the other player's drink if it is in his hands, and anything else he may be wearing or holding)

A valid shot may bounce off of anything other than a player to be in play. All inanimate objects in the kitchen are part of the field, including other players' drinks if they are put down.

The next player in rotation may not shoot until the player has announced the drink total from his turn.

If the shot is valid and goes in the cup, the team wins and the game is over. All players should take healthy swigs of their drinks. This is an incredible achievement and intense celebration should ensue.

thinking collectively human progression expands the freedom of humanity, although it limits individual freedoms in some ways. Obviously I don't know this for a fact but I'm applying the relative levels of happiness i have experienced in my short life to a larger scale. I was just as content with scrambled porn 10 years ago as i am today with full screen HD videos of the hottest babes. I guess the point is that although you may be happy the inbred desire in all humans to want more than they have will keep society moving forward, even if as a society we are just as content as we were 300 years ago. In the end it's just about survival. At some point in the future humans are going to get off the planet or they are going to die, so technological advancement is necessary. It's almost as if a complex collective survival instinct exists that we cannot be individually conscience of.
